Dr Garrick Hileman is one of the world’s most-cited researchers of cryptocurrencies and distributed ledger technologies. He received his PhD from the London School of Economics and is a researcher at the University of Cambridge, where he teaches on cryptocurrencies and distributed leader technologies. He is the author of the “2017 Global Cryptocurrency Benchmarking Study” (University of Cambridge) and the follow-on “2017 Global Blockchain Benchmarking Study” (University of Cambridge). Dr. Peter Rizun is a physicist and entrepreneur living in Vancouver, Canada. He is the Chief Scientist for Bitcoin Unlimited, focusing on the development of analytical theory that explains properties and emergent phenomenon of the Bitcoin Network. Peter is also the co-founder and co-managing editor of Ledger, the world’s first peer-reviewed academic journal dedicated to cryptocurrency research, published by the University of Pittsburgh. He was the recipient of the $105,000 Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) CGS Doctoral Award and was recognized as a “Leader of Tomorrow” by the Alberta Science and Technology Foundation (ASTech). He holds a B.A.Sc. degree in Engineering Physics from the University of British Columbia and a Ph.D. in Medical Physics from the University of Calgary.
Eva Kaili is a Member of the European Parliament, elected in 2014. In her capacity as the Chair of the European Parliament’s Science and Technology Options Assessment body (STOA) she has, been working intensively on promoting innovation as a driving force of the establishment of the European Digital Single Market. She has been particularly active in the fields of blockchain technology, m/eHealth, big data, fintech and cybersecurity. Since her election she has also been very active in the field of taxation, where she has been the Rapporteur of the ECON committee’s annual tax report. As a member of the ECON committee she has been focusing on EU’s financial integration and the management of the financial crisis in the Eurozone. Prior to her position in the European Parliament, she has been elected two times in the Greek Parliament (serving between 2007-2012), with the PanHellenic Socialist Movement (PASOK). Professor George M. Giaglis is Director of the Institute for the Future at the University of Nicosia, as well as a leading expert on blockchain technology and applications and advisor to many blockchain projects and technology start-ups. George has been working on digital currencies and blockchain since 2012, with his main focus being on new forms of industrial organization (programmable smart contracts, decentralized applications and distributed autonomous organizations) and new forms of corporate financing (token economy, crypto-economics and ICOs). Previously, Jeff was a senior official at the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission from 2014-2017. As FinTech Advisor to Chairman J. Christopher Giancarlo, he was Founding Director and architect of LabCFTC, the CFTC’s hub for engagement with FinTech innovation (the first launched by a U.S. market regulator). He established and chaired the CFTC blockchain, virtual currencies and FinTech working group from inception in 2015. Jeff led FinTech and RegTech coordination with domestic and international regulators, and led an international regulator workstream on post-trade digital innovation. Jeff previously led the CFTC’s Division of Clearing and Risk, which oversees many of the world’s largest clearinghouses. He led the negotiations resulting in “Clearinghouse Equivalence” with the European Commission. He joined the CFTC as Special Counsel to Chairman Timothy Massad, and also led the CFTC’s Office of International Affairs.
Jeff worked for many years in the financial industry in New York and London. Gregor Borosa is one of the first UNIC’s MSc Digital Currency alumnus, with a passionate affinity to Bitcoin, blockchain and beyond. He has a background in computer science and has worked for several years as a lead software engineer in the central bank of Slovenia, working with payment and settlement systems, batch processing and monitoring systems.
Currently, he is freelancing as a consultant-developer and is also an instructor at the University of Nicosia’s MSc program Digital Currency, where he is a lecturer in a course focused on the applications of the blockchain technology and a co-lecturer in the course about programming on the blockchain.
Nicolas T. Courtois
Nicolas Courtois is a Senior Lecturer at University College London, where he teaches about applied cryptography GA12 and cryptanalysis GA18.

Angeliki Dedopoulou is EU Affairs adviser to DG Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion of the European Commission for the European Skills, Competences, Qualifications and Occupations (ESCO) project. Her main focus is the ESCO project and its use in related initiatives, such as the EU Skills Profile for Third Country Nationals, EUROPASS and the Blueprint for sectoral cooperation on skills. Dr Ian Gauci is a partner at GTG Advocates and Afilexion Alliance. Adam Hayes, CFA is a researcher at the University of Wisconsin-Madison who studies financial technology in society. Constantinos N. Phellas
Professor Constantinos N. Phellas is the Vice Rector for Faculty and Research at the University of Nicosia. Prof. Phellas received an MSc in Management Science and Operational Research from the University of Warwick, UK and an MSc in Advanced Social Research Methods and Statistics from City University London, UK. In 1998, Prof. Phellas obtained his PhD in Medical Sociology from the University of Essex, UK. Prof. Phellas has over two decades of teaching experience both in the UK and Cyprus and has been involved in several research projects funded by the Cyprus Research Council, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the European Commission and the Council of Europe. He has served as a consultant to various organizations including, among others, the World Health Organisation (WHO), the European Commission, the Council of Europe, the European Science Foundation (ESF), the Belgian Science Policy Council and the Hellenic Quality Assurance and Accreditation Agency. Prof. Phellas also serves as an evaluator for European Funding Agencies and holds official European and Governmental appointments; among others, he is the Chairman of the Cyprus National Bioethics Committee, a member of the Bureau of the Council of Europe’s Bioethics Committee (DH-BIO), a member of the Cyprus National Transplant Board, a member of the National Medical Assisted Reproductive Board. Prof. Phellas has published extensively and has attended several international conferences.
Dr. Haris Savvides is an experienced advocate and law lecturer in the University of Nicosia with over 10 years’ experience in Corporate, Competition and Financial law. He holds a PhD in Law from the University of Sheffield in the U.K., with his doctoral thesis being on competition law and more specifically on the EU regulatory framework on state aids to firms in difficulty. Stefan Tai is Professor and Head of Chair Information Systems Engineering (ISE) at TU Berlin, Germany. Professor Marinos Themistocleous teaches at the world-leading Digital Currency Postgraduate programme at University of Nicosia, Cyprus and holds a certification in Fintech and future commerce from MIT. He received an MSc and a Ph.D. degree in computer science and service oriented architectures from Computer Engineering and Informatics department, University of Patras, Greece. His interests extend in several areas of Human Computer Interaction, Internet of Things, Distributed Ledger Technologies (BlockChain), information visualisation and machine learning in different domains with emphasis in ICT, IoT, security, health. Since 2001, he has been involved in several EU, International and national R&D projects . Furthermore, right now I am the CEO of Oceanus Protocol, a blockchain startup that aims to revolutionize the shipping industry via blockchain technology and at the same time I am the Head of Blockchain at KPC Finance, one of the most successful consulting firms in Greece where the last 2 months I already have 7 clients from Singapore, Dubai, European countries and San Francisco and my department is consisted by 13 employees.
